  1. INSTALLING THE HP DESKJET SERIES V.3.0 PRINTER DRIVER 
  2. FOR MICROSOFT(R) WINDOWS(TM) 3.0 AND 3.1 
  3. THROUGH THE CONTROL PANEL
  4. =====================================================
  5.  
  6. Follow these instructions if you are having difficulty 
  7. installing the HP DeskJet Series v.3.0 Printer Driver for
  8. Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) 3.0 and 3.1 with the HP Printer Setup 
  9. Program.
  10.  
  11. If you have problems installing printer driver, go to the 
  12. Printers dialog box. If your printer driver appears in the 
  13. Installed Printers list box, select it, click Configure, 
  14. Remove, and OK. Then begin installation again.
  15.

  21. INSTALLING THE DRIVER AND ITS SUPPORT FILES ON YOUR HARD
  22. DISK
  23. =========================================================
  24.  
  25. 1.   Start the Windows program and ensure that no memory
  26.      resident programs are running.
  27.  
  28. 2.   Open the Main group window.
  29.  
  30. 3.   Open the Control Panel icon.
  31.  
  32. 4.   Open the Printers icon.
  33.  
  34. 5.   3.1 users: Click the Add>> button. 
  35.  
  36.      3.0 users: Click the Add Printer button, then scroll 
  37.      through the List of Printers box until Unlisted Printer
  38.      appears.
  39.  
  40. 6.   3.1 users: Double click Install Unlisted or Updated 
  41.      Printer.
  42.  
  43.      3.0 users: Double click Unlisted Printer.
  44.  
  45. 7.   Insert the HP DeskJet Series Printer Driver Installation
  46.      Disk 1 into your computer's disk drive.
  47.  
  48. 8.   3.1 users: Indicate the drive into which you inserted your
  49.      disk. Click OK.
  50.  
  51.      3.0 users: Double click your computer's disk drive in the 
  52.      Directories list box on the right.
  53.  
  54. 9.   3.1 users: Select your printer model from the Add Unlisted
  55.      or Updated Printer dialog box. Click OK.
  56.  
  57.      3.0 users: Double click deskjetc.drv in the Driver Files 
  58.      list box on the left.
  59.  
  60. 10.  If you are using 5 1/4 in. disks, insert the HP DeskJet 
  61.      Series Printer Driver Installation Disk 2 when prompted 
  62.      and type the drive in which the disk was inserted, then 
  63.      click OK.

  65. 11.  Click Close (3.1 users) or OK (3.0 users) to close the 
  66.      Printers dialog box.
  67.  
  68. 12.  IMPORTANT! Exit the Control Panel to ensure that
  69.      the driver is installed properly. This will return you to
  70.      the Main Group window.

  74. SELECTING PRINTER SETTINGS
  75. ==========================

  77. 1.   Open the Main group window.
  78.  
  79. 2.   Open the Control Panel icon.
  80.  
  81. 3.   Open the Printers icon.
  82.  
  83. 4.   Click your printer driver in the Installed Printers
  84.      list box.
  85.  
  86. 5.   Click the Connect (3.1 users) or the Configure (3.0 users)
  87.      button.
  88.  
  89. 6.   Click LPT1 or COM1 in the Ports list box on the left to
  90.      select the port to which you connected your printer. 
  91.      LPT ports are parallel ports. COM ports are serial
  92.      ports. If no other printers are installed on your
  93.      system, select LPT1. Click OK (3.1 users).

  95. 7.   Click the Setup button.
  96.  
  97. 8.   Select your printer settings, as desired.
  98.  
  99.      Click the Help button for more information on printer 
  100.      settings.

  104. INSTALLING PRINTER FONTS
  105. ========================
  106.  
  107. 1.   Open the Main group window.
  108.  
  109. 2.   Open the Control Panel icon.
  110.  
  111. 3.   Open the Printers icon.
  112.  
  113. 4.   Click your printer driver in the Installed Printers 
  114.      list box.
  115.  
  116. 5.   Click the Configure button (3.0 users).
  117.  
  118. 6.   Click the Setup button.
  119.  
  120. 7.   Click the Fonts button.
  121.  
  122. 8.   Click the Printer Fonts button.
  123.  
  124. 9.   If you are using 5 1/4 in. disks, insert the HP DeskJet 
  125.      Series Printer Driver Installation Disk 2 into your 
  126.      disk drive (if it isn't already in the drive).
  127.  
  128. 10.  Specify the directory in which to store your font
  129.      configuration files. Use the default directory 
  130.      (C:\TD\TYPE), or type an alternate drive\directory  
  131.      and click OK.
  132.  
  133.      For first time installation, you must confirm 
  134.      creation of the new directory (C:\TD\TYPE). Click OK.
  135.  
  136. 11.  Click the Install Fonts button.
  137.  
  138. 12.  Specify the disk drive from which your fonts will be 
  139.      installed in the Install Fonts: Source Directory
  140.      dialog box and click OK.
  141.  
  142. 13.  Specify the directory where your fonts will be stored. 
  143.      Use the default directory (C:\TD\TYPE), or type an 
  144.      alternate drive\directory and click OK.
  145.  
  146.      The printer fonts will appear in the Printer Fonts From: 
  147.      list box on the left.
  148.  
  149. 14.  Select the fonts you wish to install from the Printer
  150.      Fonts From: list box on the left. Select all or some 
  151.      of the source fonts by pressing and holding the Ctrl key 
  152.      while clicking on the name of each font you wish to 
  153.      install.

  155. 15.  Click the >>Copy>> button.
  156.  
  157.      For first time installation, this process may take
  158.      several minutes. When this is complete, the list of
  159.      fonts you just installed will appear in the Installed
  160.      Printer Fonts list box on the right.
  161.  
  162. 16.  Click OK to close the Install Printer Fonts dialog box.

  164. To create screen fonts for the printer fonts you just 
  165. installed, continue with Creating Screen Fonts, below. Or, 
  166. click Cancel to exit the fonts dialog box and continue with
  167. Activating Your Printer in the next section.

  171. CREATING SCREEN FONTS
  172. =====================
  173.  
  174. Creating screen fonts is optional; you will be able to use
  175. the scalable printer fonts whether screen fonts exist or
  176. not.
  177.  
  178. 1.   Open the Main group window.
  179.  
  180. 2.   Open the Control Panel icon.
  181.  
  182. 3.   Open the Printers icon.
  183.  
  184. 4.   Click your printer driver in the Installed Printers
  185.      list box.
  186.  
  187. 5.   Click the Configure button (3.0 users).
  188.  
  189. 6.   Click the Setup button.
  190.  
  191. 7.   Click the Fonts button.
  192.  
  193. 8.   Click the Screen Fonts button.
  194.  
  195. 9.   Select the printer fonts for which you wish to make
  196.      screen fonts from the Installed Printer Font(s) list
  197.      box on the left.

  199.      You may select more than one printer font by pressing
  200.      and holding the Ctrl key while clicking each the name
  201.      of each printer font.
  202.  
  203. 10.  Click the >>Create>> button.
  204.  
  205.      The screen fonts will be created in the following
  206.      standard point sizes: 8, 10, 12, 14, 18, and 24. You
  207.      may add or delete sizes for a screen font by selecting
  208.      the font from the Installed Screen Font(s) list box and
  209.      clicking the Edit Sizes button. Click the Help button
  210.      for more information on editing screen fonts.

  212. 11.  Click OK to close the Create Screen Fonts dialog box.

  214. 12.  Click Cancel to exit the Fonts dialog box.

  218. ACTIVATING YOUR PRINTER
  219. =======================
  220.  
  221. Before you may use your printer, you must activate it.
  222.  
  223. 1.   Click OK to close the printer setup dialog box.
  224.  
  225. 2.   3.0 users: Click OK to close the Printers-Configure 
  226.      dialog box.
  227.  
  228. 3.   3.0 users: Click Active in the Status box in the 
  229.      Printers dialog box.
  230.  
  231. 4.   Double click your printer driver to make it your default 
  232.      printer.
  233.  
  234. 5.   Click Close (3.1 users) or OK (3.0 users) to close the 
  235.      Printers dialog box.
  236.  
  237. 6.   Close the Control Panel, returning to the Main group
  238.      window.
  239.  
  240. 7.   Remove the disk from your disk drive and store it 
  241.      in a safe place.
  242.  
  243. Your printer driver is now installed and set up for use. 
  244. Additional information on using the printer driver can be 
  245. found by clicking the Help buttons in the printer setup 
  246. dialog boxes.
